Preparing for the CDL Exam:
TALKING WITH YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT DIABETES

Tell your doctor that in order to maintain your CDL, you cannot take insulin for your diabetes.

As a professional driver, you will need to manage your diabetes with diet and oral medications.

Click here for the DOT guidelines to print out and take with you.

Questions to ask your doctor:

1.What is the right goal for my blood glucose level? How does the stress of my job affect my glucose level?
2.What is an appropriate weight for me?
3.What is an appropriate nutrition and exercise program for me that will fit in with my job as a professional driver? Can you recommend a program to help me quit smoking?
4.What medication, if any, is right for me? How should I take the medication?
5.How often should I have kidney function, eye, and foot examinations?
6.What else should I be doing?
